This treatment modality is typically the frontline approach to management of most animal cancers. It can be a minor biopsy procedure to make a histologic diagnosis of a newly discovered lump or bump, or it can be more major involving removal of whole organs or other body parts. The best chance to achieve complete removal of a tumor is at the first surgical intervention and is ideally performed by a surgeon with experience in advanced surgical oncologic techniques.
